Day-by-Day Itinerary — 3 Days Classic Serengeti Safari
Your safari is carefully planned to maximize wildlife viewing while still giving you time to relax, unwind, and fully enjoy the journey. Here’s what you can expect day by day.
Day 1: Arusha to Serengeti Central
our journey begins after breakfast in Arusha, where your driver-guide meets you at your hotel and helps you prepare for the adventure ahead. As you leave the city behind, the landscape slowly opens up into wide savannah and rolling hills. The drive takes you through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a dramatic region where highland forests and volcanic slopes dominate the scenery. You’ll pass small Maasai villages scattered across the hills, their colorful attire standing out against the earthy tones of the land.
Reaching the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you feel the atmosphere shift. Mist drifts along the slopes, the air cools, and your view stretches across valleys and ridges shaped by ancient volcanic activity. This route is rich in wildlife, and you may start spotting zebras, giraffes, and wildebeest long before reaching Serengeti National Park.
From the conservation area, the road continues toward the endless plains of the Serengeti. This part of the drive is exciting, as the scenery transforms from cool highlands to warm, open savannah dotted with acacia trees and granite kopjes. You enter the Serengeti through the Naabi Hill Gate, where a sweeping panorama of the plains gives you a taste of what the next days will bring.
Once inside Serengeti Central (Seronera), your first game drive begins. This region is known for predators, especially lions and leopards, which often rest on rocky outcrops or hide in tall grass. Cheetahs are common here as well, using the open plains to chase down antelopes. As you explore the area, your guide helps you track wildlife while sharing stories and insights about behavior, survival, and the ecosystem.
By evening, you head to Seronera Campsite, your home for the night. You enjoy dinner under the stars, surrounded by the sounds of the African night—distant lion roars, soft hyena calls, and the rustling of the savannah. It’s a perfect ending to your first day.

Day 2: Serengeti Morning Drive and Ngorongoro Crater Descent
After breakfast, you enjoy another chance to explore the Serengeti before heading toward Ngorongoro. Early mornings are magical here. The soft golden light casts long shadows, and nocturnal animals begin returning to their resting spots. This is one of the best times to spot predators, especially lions returning from a night hunt or cheetahs preparing for the day.
Leaving the Serengeti, you travel once more through wide plains and rocky hills, passing herds of grazing animals as you go. The Serengeti to Ngorongoro distance takes around three hours, but with wildlife sightings along the way, it often feels like a continuation of the game drive rather than a transfer.
As you reach the crater rim, the view unfolds dramatically beneath you. The Ngorongoro Crater stretches out like a vast natural amphitheater, its fertile floor glowing green and gold depending on the season. This enormous volcanic caldera is one of the richest wildlife habitats in Africa, home to lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras, hippos, hyenas, flamingos, and one of the few remaining populations of the endangered black rhino.
Descending into the crater is a highlight on its own. The steep road winds down the inner walls, and as you reach the basin, the scenery shifts to open grassland, dense forests, and sparkling lakes. Your game drive takes you across the crater floor, where the concentration of animals is so high that every turn reveals something new. Lions rest under acacia trees, hippos splash in pools, giant tusker elephants wander near swampy areas, and thousands of grazing animals move peacefully across the plains.
Around midday, you stop for a relaxing picnic at the hippo pool. This spot is famous for its calm water, rich birdlife, and the playful sounds of hippos cooling off in the midday sun. It’s a memorable way to enjoy lunch while surrounded by the beauty of the crater.
Later in the afternoon, you head to Simba Campsite A, located near the crater rim. The high-altitude air feels refreshing, and on clear evenings, you can enjoy incredible sunset views across the highlands.

Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive and Return to Arusha
Your final morning begins with another descent into the Ngorongoro Crater. Morning hours bring different behavior from the animals—lions become more active, hyenas patrol their territories, and elephants move across the landscape with a quiet determination. The morning light adds a warm glow to the scenery, creating ideal photography conditions and peaceful, unforgettable moments.
Your guide leads you to some of the crater’s key areas, from open grasslands to forested corners where elephants often gather. With its mix of habitats, the crater feels like an entire ecosystem compacted into a single natural bowl. The chance of spotting the Big 5 here is higher than almost anywhere else in Africa, especially since rhinos often graze in the open during cooler hours.
After more exploration, you enjoy one final picnic lunch at the hippo pool. This moment gives you time to sit back, breathe in the fresh highland air, and appreciate everything you’ve witnessed over the last three days.
In the early afternoon, you begin your drive back to Arusha, passing through scenic highlands and landscapes shaped by nature over millions of years. You arrive in the late afternoon, marking the end of your incredible three-day journey.

Everything You Need to Know About Your Safari
Every safari adventure begins with a question. Whether it’s your first or second time, it’s natural to wonder about the best time to visit, what to pack, or how the journey works. Here, we’ve answered the most common questions travelers ask before booking their Kenya safari, so you can plan with confidence and look forward to unforgettable memories.
The movement changes throughout the year, but the most dramatic moments—especially the Mara River crossings—usually happen from July to October. During these months, the herds gather in large numbers, creating some of the most unforgettable wildlife scenes in Africa.
Yes. From November to early March, the landscape is lush, wildlife is still abundant, and you get fewer crowds. Calving takes place in the southern Serengeti around January and February, bringing predators close and offering incredible sightings.
Absolutely. Even though short rains and long rains occur, animals don’t disappear. Many remain clustered near permanent water sources, and the scenery becomes vibrant, which can make photography even more beautiful.
June is excellent. The weather is dry and pleasant, visibility improves as vegetation thins, and wildlife movement becomes more predictable. It’s also a great time to catch the migration as it moves north.
The shoulder months—April, May, and early November—often offer better rates on lodges and camps. You still enjoy great wildlife viewing, but with fewer travelers and more value for your budget.
Yes. Tanzania is a year-round destination. Families often prefer the dry months from June to October because the weather is reliable and animals are easier to spot, but the green season is perfect for those who want quieter parks and lower prices.
Absolutely. Every part of the itinerary can be adjusted—lodges, travel dates, flight options, beach nights, and even adding destinations like Lake Manyara or Zanzibar. A customized quote ensures the experience fits your personal travel style.
